Modern
man is scientific. He depends on logic and rationale to determine
and set the parameters of his forays into all aspects of self and
life. Therefore the journey to the spiritual, in order to be effective,
must use scientific techniques that are palatable and understandable
to the modern mind.
The
spiritual includes the scientific but the scientific is not necessarily
spiritual. This path is about understanding the spiritual in scientific
terms and through scientific techniques. We use logic to lead us
to what is beyond logic. The scientific is all about the application
of logic and the spiritual is what emerges in the absence of logic.
To journey into the unknown we use the known. To journey into the
mysterious we must journey through the evident.
For
example if sound did not exist we would not understand silence.
Therefore logic demands that in order to access silence within ourselves
we must first journey through the sound that surrounds it. It is
only through the journey of the evident that that which is hidden
can be revealed. Any rejection of sound can only lead to its suppression.
When we understand the nature of sound we are able to move beyond
it into silence.
The
spiritual is vast and incomprehensible to the modern experience
of thought that limits itself to formulas and prescriptions. It
is also understood to be in direct contrast and rejection of the
material world, which has become of immense importance to man in
this age. The scientific approach eliminates all distinction between
the material and the spiritual and uses the former to journey into
the latter. In other words nothing is rejected, everything becomes
a stepping-stone to discovering the infinite self that is the infinite
divine.
The
scientific approach also ensures that all experiences along the
path to the divine are born from a direct experience of the self,
no matter how narrow or limited we experience it to be, and not
from external dictates. These realisations and experiences then
begin an expansion of the self, which is also experienced directly
as our own truth. In order to access the heights we must move from
the lower to the higher. The mind based on logic must use techniques
of logic to move beyond logic and access the spiritual.
The
journey to the spiritual is scientific but the experience of the
spiritual lies beyond the boundaries of the scientific techniques
that it uses.
